Photograph Gallery 11 - To Liverpool (2) In May and June 2007 "Maria" was horse-drawn to Liverpool, to be present there during the World Canals Conference. This involved negotiating the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which the society had not previously horse-boated. This page shows the journey between Lydiate and Litherland.

Passing the Mersey Motor Boat Club's moorings at Lydiate, a few miles north of Liverpool.		Near Melling village, the last bit of open countryside before Liverpool.
Arriving at Aintree, Queenie rounds "Canal Turn".		Maria goes down the straight alongside Aintree race course.
"Maria" moored up at Melling Road Bridge, so that "Queenie can pay a visit to Aintree race course.		Queenie contemplates the prospect of a run around the Grand National course!

BW staff came and opened Netherton Swing Bridge for us, which was just as well because it then jammed open!		Passing Rimrose Valley Country Park, where we had stopped for a break, to give Queenie a well-earned rest.
